IACUC Protocol Closure

PIs should close a study when all study activity has been completed. The iRIS platform sends automatic notifications 90, 60, and 30 days prior to the study expiration date. If the study should be closed, then an IACUC Study Closure form must be submitted by the PI in iRIS.

Submission Checklist

All requests to close or terminate an animal study must include the following:

• A completed IACUC Study Closure form. Responses should be clear and concise to improve readability. Complete all fields. Fields that are not applicable to the protocol or report should indicate that they are not applicable.

• Update the iRIS Animal Resource Center (ARC) module to reflect the status of all animals.

If a study has not been approved to continue activities by its expiration date, it will be administratively closed by the ORRC. Animals that were active in an administratively closed protocol are transferred to a protocol managed by Veterinary Services.
