IBC Protocol Closure

Active IBC protocols should be closed/terminated when all approved research activities are complete or if other circumstances require that the protocol be closed. PIs may close/terminate a protocol by submitting an IBC Closure Form in the iRIS electronic compliance platform. Once a research protocol is closed, no further research activities may be conducted.

If a protocol has not been approved to continue activities by its expiration date, it will be administratively closed by the ORRC.

Submission Checklist

A complete submission increases the chance of approval. The following information should be included in an IBC protocol closure request:

  • A completed IBC Closure Form. Responses should be clear and concise to improve readability and understanding. Complete all fields. Fields that are not applicable to the protocol or report should indicate that they are not applicable.

  • An update on how all biological material will be stored, transferred, or disposed of.

  • Explanation of laboratory space decontamination as recommended by HU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
