Radiation Safety Committee

The Research Safety Committee is dedicated to ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials and sources of ionizing radiation. The committee formulates policies, provides oversight, and supports the implementation of radiation safety programs to protect researchers, staff, the public, and the environment. It ensures compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.

Goals and Objectives

  • Foster a culture of safety awareness and responsibility among all personnel working with radioactive materials.

  • Analyze incidents involving radiation to identify causes and recommend preventive actions.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing the use of radioactive materials.

Membership

The Radiation Safety Committee is composed of at least two Howard University practicing scientists from various academic units.

Meetings

The Radiation Safety Committee meets on an ad-hoc basis, when a relatable concern is raised.
